2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced: Mariah Carey, Cher, and More

2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed a diverse list of nominees, including music icons such as Mariah Carey, Cher, Lenny Kravitz, the late Sinéad O'Connor, and Ozzy Osbourne.
Wide Range of Musical Genres
These nominees cover a wide range of musical genres, from pop-soul represented by Sade to the Britpop sound of Oasis. The inclusion of Ozzy Osbourne, both as a solo artist and as part of Black Sabbath, showcases the hall's recognition of his influential contributions to heavy metal. A nod was also given to hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim, soft rockers Foreigner, singer-guitarist Peter Frampton, alt-rockers Jane's Addiction, Dave Matthews Band, and dance icons Kool & the Gang.
Recognition and Influence
Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, John Sykes, expressed, "Continuing in the true spirit of rock 'n' roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps." Notably, ten of the 15 nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Kravitz, Oasis, O'Connor, Sade, and Osbourne.
Addressing Gender Imbalance
The potential induction of Carey, Cher, and Sade, each with their own significant musical achievements, could help address the gender imbalance in the hall. Artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they are eligible for induction.
Induction Ceremony and Voting
The induction ceremony is set to take place in Cleveland this fall, with nominees being voted on by more than 1,000 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. Fans will also have the opportunity to vote online or in person at the museum, with the top five artists' picks making up a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied with the other professional ballots.
Previous Inductees
Last year's inductees included Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Chaka Khan, "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius, Kate Bush, and the late George Michael.
Conclusion
The announcement of the nominees for the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction shines a spotlight on the diverse and influential artists who have left an indelible mark on the music world.
