30-Year-Old Message in a Bottle Found in New York’s Shinnecock Bay

A message in a bottle written by a ninth-grade science class on Long Island 32 years ago has resurfaced in New York's Shinnecock Bay. The letter, thrown into the Atlantic in October 1992 as part of an Earth Science project, was discovered by Adam Travis, a resident of the Shinnecock Reservation, who posted about it on the Mattituck High School Alumni Facebook page. The post garnered over 4,000 likes and hundreds of heartfelt messages, with many remembering Mr. Richard E. Brooks, the teacher who organized the project.
The heartwarming discovery serves as a touching tribute to Mr. Brooks, who passed away last year. This finding echoes similar instances, such as a science class message in a bottle from 1997 found in France and another high school message from 1972 uncovered in 2019.
