64-Year-Old Thai Woman Rescued After Constricting Encounter with Giant Python in Kitchen
A 64-year-old woman in Bangkok was constricted by a huge python; she was rescued after two hours, suffering bites but otherwise unharmed.

Visit to a 64-year-old woman's home near Bangkok turned into a terrifying experience when she was bitten and coiled by a python. The incident highlights the dangers of encountering wildlife in urban areas.
The Python Encounter
The woman was about to do her evening dishes when she felt a sharp pain in her thigh. Looking down, she saw a huge python taking hold of her. The snake, measuring 13 to 16 feet long, coiled itself around her torso, squeezing her down to the kitchen floor. Despite her attempts to free herself, the snake tightened its grip.
Desperate Pleas for Help
The woman cried for help, but it wasn't until a neighbor heard her screams an hour and a half later that authorities were called. When the police arrived, the woman was still leaning against her kitchen door, looking exhausted and pale, with the snake coiled around her.
Police and animal control officers used a crowbar to hit the snake on the head until it released its grip and slithered away. The woman spent about two hours in the clutches of the python before being freed. She received treatment for several bites but appeared otherwise unharmed.
Encountering Wildlife in Urban Areas
Encounters with snakes are not uncommon in Thailand. In 2023, 12,000 people were treated for venomous bites by snakes and other animals. The reticulated python, which can grow up to 21 feet long and weigh 165 pounds, is the largest snake found in Thailand.
Fatal Attacks and Safety Measures
While attacks on humans by pythons are not common, there have been fatal attacks in other countries. It is crucial for residents in areas prone to wildlife encounters to be aware of safety measures and to report sightings to authorities.
Wildlife encounters in urban areas can pose serious risks to residents. It is important for individuals to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
