65 Project Targets Pro-Trump Lawyers in Swing States with Ethical Ads to Protect Democracy
Legal watchdogs are now proactively reminding lawyers in swing states not to risk their licenses by bringing false claims on behalf of clients.
In the aftermath of the 2020 elections, concerns about the ethical standards of some legal practitioners have given rise to a wave of ethics complaints. Legal watchdogs, unsettled by the behavior of certain lawyers who allegedly employed dubious tactics to aid former President Donald Trump in his bid to maintain power, initiated numerous complaints against these attorneys. Over the past few years, these watchdog groups have achieved significant victories, resulting in penalties that have led to the suspension of law licenses for prominent pro-Trump lawyers, including John Eastman and Rudolph W. Giuliani.
Proactive Measures by 65 Project
In a bid to curb unethical practices within the legal profession, one of these watchdog organizations, known as the 65 Project, is adopting a more proactive stance. Beginning Thursday, the group’s leaders intend to launch a series of advertisements in legal journals circulated in swing states. These advertisements will serve as a stark reminder to legal practitioners about their ethical obligations, specifically warning against the implication of false claims on behalf of clients.
The advertisements boldly state, “Don’t jeopardize your law license by participating in efforts to undermine democracy. Both we and the public are vigilant.” This initiative aims to raise awareness among lawyers about the potential consequences of engaging in unethical practices, emphasizing the importance of upholding the principles of justice and integrity within the legal profession.
