Activists Protest Summer Heat on Wall Street, Target Citigroup's Support of Oil and Gas
Activists in New York protest burning of coal, oil, and gas, causing intense heat waves; targeting Citigroup for funding oil and gas projects.

Throughout a scorching summer in New York, a large number of activists have been gathering regularly to raise awareness about the primary driver of global warming: the combustion of coal, oil, and gas, which emits heat-trapping gases and exacerbates the intensity and frequency of heat waves.
Passionate Demonstrations
The protesters systematically apply SPF 50+ to protect their young children from the blazing sun, engage in lively marches through the canyons of the Financial District while playing drums, and even, amidst the searing heat, willingly allow themselves to be removed by the police.
Lamenting the soaring temperatures, Leslie Stevens, 70, emphasized that the ongoing protests are not a fleeting occurrence but a collective act of resistance. "This is not a one-time thing. We’re going to burn ourselves collectively," she stated during a recent demonstration.
The movement, named the Summer of Heat on Wall Street, has fixed its focus on Citigroup, identified in a recent report by a coalition of environmental organizations as being the primary financial supporter of new oil and gas projects worldwide.
