AI Chatbots Assess President Biden's Cognitive Abilities and Age-Related Issues in Recent Interview

As a means of assessing President Joe Biden's cognitive abilities, we sought the evaluation of two AI chatbots—ChatGPT and Claude. These chatbots were tasked with analyzing the transcript of Biden's interview with special counsel Robert Hur, particularly in relation to his clarity of thought, coherence, language use, memory recall, and other relevant indicators.

Special Counsel Investigation and Findings

In February, special counsel Robert Hur concluded his investigation into President Biden's handling of classified documents, recommending no charges in part due to Biden's age and memory. The report highlighted instances where Biden struggled with memory, specifically regarding his tenure as vice president and the passing of his son Beau.

Assessment by AI Chatbots

Upon analyzing the interview transcript, both ChatGPT and Claude concluded that President Biden's cognitive abilities appeared to be intact. ChatGPT emphasized that Biden was able to effectively communicate, recall details, and engage in logical reasoning, all of which are key indicators of cognitive abilities.

Claude echoed similar sentiments, noting that while there were some age-related changes observed, they did not significantly impact Biden's cognitive functioning during the interview.

Considerations and Caveats

While the assessments provided valuable insights, it is important to exercise caution in interpreting the findings. Both ChatGPT and Claude have been known to generate biased or inaccurate information in certain contexts, as highlighted in previous studies and reports.

However, while ChatGPT deemed it unfeasible to determine the President's age based on the transcript alone, Claude estimated that Biden is likely in his late 70s or early 80s, considering the average age of previous US Presidents and the timeline of events referenced in the transcript.
