Altercation on Alabama Riverfront Leads to Assault Charges

close Video Viral Brawl Erupts on Alabama Riverfront During a press conference on Tuesday, Montgomery Police Department Chief Darryl Albert announced that assault charges were being pressed against three individuals involved in a highly publicized brawl at a dock in Montgomery, Alabama. The boat co-captain, Dameion Pickett, at the center of the incident, is now facing a misdemeanor assault charge. One of the accused individuals filed a complaint last month, alleging that Pickett instigated the physical altercation during the chaotic scene. The complaint, filed on October 26 before the trial scheduled for November 16, claims that Pickett was hit and kicked by the co-accused. Pickett's arraignment is now set for November 21. Earlier, five other people were charged in relation to the Montgomery brawl. Two boaters previously pleaded guilty to charges of misdemeanor assault or harassment, while three individuals, including the person seen swinging a folding chair in a viral video, have upcoming court dates. Pickett explained in an interview in late September that he was taken aback when he was attacked, stating that he was simply carrying out his duties. The altercation occurred after the Harriott II, the vessel he was co-captaining, encountered obstructions caused by a moored pontoon boat. Pickett stated that requests were made to clear the pathway, but tensions escalated, leading to the physical confrontation. Despite the brawl, Pickett remained focused on docking the boat safely. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
