Amazon Introduces New Fixed Pricing for Health Treatments to Compete in Telehealth Market
Amazon provides Prime members fixed pricing for telehealth treatments, enhancing its healthcare services after acquiring One Medical for $3.9 billion.
On Thursday, Amazon unveiled a new initiative that allows Prime members to access fixed pricing for treatments related to various health conditions, including erectile dysfunction and men's hair loss. This move is seen as Amazon's latest strategy to strengthen its position in the competitive direct-to-consumer healthcare market, posing direct competition to established players like Hims & Hers Health and Ro.
A Shift in Pricing Strategy
The announcement marks a significant shift in Amazon's pricing strategy for telehealth services, particularly for Prime members. According to a blog post by the company, these members can now see the upfront costs of a telehealth visit along with the pricing for their desired treatment before making any decisions. This transparency extends to five common <>health issues, allowing patients to weigh their options more effectively.
As part of this fixed pricing initiative, patients can access treatments for various conditions at competitive rates. For instance, anti-aging skin care treatments start at just $10 per month, while treatments for motion sickness are priced at $2 per use. Erectile dysfunction treatments are available for $19 per month, eyelash growth treatments for $43 per month, and treatments for men's hair loss are priced at $16 per month. These prices are available to Prime members who use Amazon's savings benefit, Prime Rx, at checkout.
Expansion of Telehealth Services
This new pricing model follows Amazon's acquisition of primary care provider One Medical for approximately $3.9 billion in July 2022. The announcement further builds on Amazon's existing pay-per-visit telehealth offering, which allows users to access video and messaging visits for various common conditions, including sinus infection and pink eye, at costs of $49 and $29, respectively.
The medications prescribed through these telehealth services will be processed through Amazon Pharmacy, enabling eligible patients to access discounted pricing. The medications will be conveniently delivered to the patients' doorsteps in standard Amazon packaging.
