Travis Timmerman, a 29-year-old American, was rescued from a Syrian prison by the U.S. military. This rescue operation occurred in the wake of the downfall of former President Bashar al-Assad's dictatorship, as confirmed by a U.S. defense official to CBS News on Friday.

Timmerman, who had been missing for approximately seven months, was located within Syria’s notorious prison system. He was subsequently transported to the Al Tanf U.S. military base and later flown out of Syria via helicopter, before being handed over to the U.S. State Department. A second defense official disclosed to CBS News that Timmerman was then flown to Jordan.

Timmerman’s Release and Condition

Upon being freed from prison, he recounted the harrowing experience, stating that he had gone to Syria for Christian "spiritual purposes." Despite his ordeal, Timmerman described his experience in prison as "not too bad," although he was detained upon entry without permission.

Timmerman revealed that he was not physically harmed during his captivity, stating, "I was never beaten. The only really bad part was that I couldn't go to the bathroom when I wanted to. I was only let out three times a day to go to the bathroom." Despite these challenges, he maintained a relatively positive outlook on his imprisonment.

Family’s Reaction

Upon learning of Timmerman's rescue, his family expressed immense relief and joy. His cousin, Mandy Pentridge, conveyed their overwhelming emotions, acknowledging the fear of a negative outcome prior to receiving the news of his safety.
