On May 18, 2024, an exclusive jewelry store on Avenue Montaigne, known as one of Paris' most luxurious streets, was targeted by armed robbers. The store in question was reported to be the prestigious Harry Winston boutique, often referred to as the "Jeweler to the Stars."
The armed robbers, who arrived and fled the scene on motorbikes, created a scene by firing a shot outside the store, fortunately without causing any casualties. Video footage aired by BFM-TV captured individuals dressed in black making a swift getaway on two motorbikes.
Police Investigation
Following the incident, police forensic officers carried out inspections at the entrance of the Harry Winston store. Additionally, the luxury boutique was cordoned off as investigators conducted their inquiries throughout the afternoon.
This is not the first time the Harry Winston store has fallen victim to robbery. In 2008, the store was subjected to a spectacular holdup, during which three armed individuals, dressed in women's clothing, stole approximately $92 million worth of goods. Subsequently, in 2015, eight individuals were convicted in connection with this incident.
While the Paris prosecutor's office overseeing the investigation did not confirm the targeted store, it was confirmed that the robbery took place at Avenue Montaigne. Despite the incident, Harry Winston is yet to provide a response to inquiries made by The Associated Press regarding the robbery and the potential value of the stolen items. The police have also refrained from disclosing whether any jewels were taken or their estimated worth. Authorities are currently on the hunt for the armed robbers responsible for the brazen daylight robbery on one of the most prestigious streets in Paris.
