Arrested Illegal Immigrant from Honduras Accused of Rape and Stabbing in Louisiana
An illegal immigrant from Honduras, Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, has been arrested in Louisiana for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl and repeatedly stabbing another man during a robbery. The 19-year-old had been on the loose for the rape of the girl earlier this month when he was arrested for robbing a man at knifepoint. Castellanos-Orellana approached the man, demanded his property, and then stabbed the victim multiple times in his face and back. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Castellanos-Orellana has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, first-degree rape, and aggravated assault for the two incidents.
Challenges Faced by Law Enforcement
In a Facebook post, the Kenner Police Department stated that local law enforcement agencies are often hindered when dealing with illegal immigrants due to the lack of documented identifiers. Castellanos-Orellana has used aliases in the past, including the name Elven Locket. Chief Keith Conley of the Kenner Police Department expressed frustration over the challenges posed by illegal migrants committing crimes in the area. Conley highlighted the lack of access to data, false identification, and language barriers, stating that these factors put local law enforcement at a huge disadvantage. These challenges are not only a drain on police manpower but also a financial burden on local law enforcement’s budgets and taxpayers' money.
Governor's Response
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry condemned the presence of Castellanos-Orellana in the state, emphasizing that he should never have been there in the first place. Landry expressed his support for the victims and their families, stating that they were harmed by an undocumented criminal. He called for the need to close the borders in order to keep communities safe.
National Context
This incident comes at a time when an illegal Salvadoran immigrant was arrested in connection to the murder of a toddler in Langley Park, Maryland. Furthermore, recent analysis by Fox News revealed that nearly 7.3 million migrants have illegally crossed the southwest border during President Biden's administration, a number greater than the population of 36 individual states.
