Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' earns $110 million and breaks records
"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" sequel breaks records with $110 million debut, ranking third-best of the year and second-highest September opener ever.
After 36 years of anticipation, the iconic phrase "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" has once again cast a spell on audiences, leading to an astonishing $110 million gross during its premiere weekend. The long-awaited sequel, directed by Tim Burton, has surged to become the third-best opening weekend of the year, surpassed only by the box office hits "Inside Out 2" and "Deadpool & Wolverine."
Return of the Beloved Cast
Michael Keaton reprises his role as the titular spirit, with Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder returning as Delia and Lydia Deetz respectively. Joining them is Jenna Ortega, portraying Lydia's daughter, Astrid. The cast is further enriched by the addition of Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux.
The sequel has emerged as the second-highest grossing September movie of all time, only trailing 2017’s "It," which debuted with an impressive $123 million. For reference, the 2019 sequel "It Chapter 2" opened with $91 million. Surprisingly, the original "Beetlejuice" film earned a modest $8 million in its opening weekend back in 1988, but went on to accumulate $77 million in domestic theaters, eventually achieving cult classic status.
Autumn Movie Season Launched
The electrifying opening weekend has injected new life into the fall movie season, providing a stark contrast after a quiet Labor Day weekend and a relatively slow August where newer films struggled to outshine the holdover movies at the box office.
