Bernie Sanders Urges Biden to Focus on Policy in Re-election Bid Amid Age Concerns
Sanders emphasizes focusing on policy for Biden's 2024 reelection, questioning the need for an agenda to benefit working-class Americans.

Senator Bernie Sanders emphasized the importance of policy as the key factor for President Biden's reelection in 2024. Addressing concerns about the president's age and debate performance, Sanders urged a shift in focus towards policies that benefit the majority of the American people.
Policy Over Age
Sanders voiced his support for President Biden, stating that despite his age, Biden can "defeat Donald Trump" and is critical of the former president's stance on abortion and climate change. He highlighted Biden's achievements in areas such as pro-union initiatives, climate policies, and infrastructure development, contrasting them with his criticism of the Biden campaign's lack of a clear agenda for the next four years.
Focusing on Working Class
Emphasizing the need for an agenda that addresses the needs of the working class, Sanders outlined key issues such as income and wealth inequality, Medicare expansion, Social Security, and childhood poverty. He stressed the importance of President Biden promising to address these issues within the first 100 days if reelected, stating that it aligns with the desires of the American people.
President Biden's Response
Amid concerns about his ability to serve another term, President Biden has made public appearances to address speculation about his candidacy. At a recent rally in Wisconsin, he assured his supporters of his intention to continue running and win again, dismissing any possibility of divine intervention prompting him to leave the race.
Challenges and Opposition
However, some Democratic lawmakers have expressed doubts about President Biden's candidacy, calling for him to step aside. Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota became the latest House Democrat to advocate for the president's withdrawal from the race. Additionally, Senator Mark Warner of Virginia has reportedly engaged with colleagues to explore ways to persuade Biden to step aside and allow others to seek the nomination.
Sanders' Focus and Position
Responding to inquiries about potentially seeking the nomination if Biden were to step aside, Sanders reaffirmed his focus on running for reelection in Vermont and indicated that he was not part of discussions about the president's candidacy. He remained committed to his current role while some Democratic colleagues were deliberating on the path forward.
