Beryl Only Brings Moderate Rain to Mexico's Tamaulipas, Authorities Urge Caution
Residents in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and Texas border areas were relieved as Beryl brought only moderate to heavy rains, but authorities warned to remain cautious.

Residents in Tamaulipas, Mexico, were relieved to hear that the expected impact of the Beryl storm would only result in moderate to heavy rains in specific areas this past weekend. The initial forecasts had indicated that the storm would make landfall in Mexico twice, causing concern among the population.
Authorities Remain Cautious
Despite the updated trajectory of the storm, authorities in Tamaulipas emphasized the importance of remaining cautious. Héctor Joel Villegas González, the state’s government secretary, urged the public not to lower their guard, stating, “Natural phenomena have no word of honor,” during a news conference on Saturday.
Preventive Measures Taken
Earlier in the week, the officials took proactive measures, including setting up temporary shelters, monitoring dams, identifying landslide-prone areas, and implementing strategies to prevent potential flooding and road blockades. These measures included clearing drainage systems and pruning trees to minimize the storm's impact.
Some residents in the region heeded the advice of the authorities by implementing preventive measures. René Aguirre Garza, a coordinator in a flood-affected neighborhood in Matamoros, reported that some neighbors were placing sandbags around their houses and cleaning the streets to mitigate potential damage.
