Biden and AMLO Discuss Border Issues in Phone Call After Protests
In a recent phone call, United States President Joe Biden and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) addressed the challenges of their shared border and pledged to continue working together, as reported by the White House. "Biden expressed his appreciation for Mexico's operational support and for taking concrete steps to deter irregular migration while expanding legal pathways," emphasized Washington in a statement. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening their efforts to counter criminal organizations involved in drug, weapon, and human trafficking.
Crisis at the US-Mexico Border: Trump supporters rally
This conversation comes after hundreds of people gathered in California and Texas, both border states with Mexico, as part of a simultaneous mobilization organized by a conservative group against undocumented migration and President Biden's policies to contain the influx of foreigners. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mexico and Central America faced an "unprecedented" migration flow to the United States in 2023, with up to 6,000 migrants arriving daily at the southern Mexican border. The rally was attended mainly by supporters of former President Donald Trump, waving American flags and expressing messages in support of the Republican seeking his second term.
