Biden and Jill Biden to Attend Trump's Inauguration, Upholding Commitment to Democratic Values
President Biden and first lady will honor their promise by attending Trump’s inauguration, demonstrating commitment to democratic values and effective transition.

The inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump is set to take place on January 20, with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden confirming their attendance. This announcement comes as a demonstration of the President's commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring a smooth transition of power.
President Biden previously expressed his intention to attend the inauguration, irrespective of the election outcome. This decision stands in contrast to former President Trump's choice not to attend President Biden's inauguration in 2021, marking a departure from a long-standing tradition. Trump's absence was particularly notable as he became the first president in over 150 years to skip the inauguration of his successor.
Demonstrating Commitment to Democratic Values
White House spokesman Andrew Bates confirmed the Bidens' attendance aboard Air Force One, emphasizing that President Biden views this as an important demonstration of commitment to our democratic values and honoring the will of the people. The President aims to provide a clear signal of continuity and respect for the democratic process, even amidst the challenges and divisions that may arise during a transition of power.
In the lead-up to the inauguration, White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients and incoming Chief of Staff Susie Wiles have held multiple meetings. However, Bates noted that the Trump transition team has yet to formalize critical agreements with the Biden administration, which has stalled the security clearance process. Furthermore, it was highlighted that agreements with the White House and the General Services Administration have not been established, posing additional hurdles to the transition.
