Biden's Border Executive Order: Texas Officials Bust Human Smuggling Operation
Texas law enforcement dismantled a human smuggling operation, rescuing 26 migrants from brutal conditions and arresting seven suspected smugglers.
A human smuggling operation was broken up by Texas law enforcement officials, leading to the recovery of 26 migrants and the arrest of seven suspected smugglers. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office received information about the operation on Thursday morning. The smuggling operation involved a long, goose-neck trailer traveling to a rural home outside San Antonio.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the trailer was coming from the Laredo area. The migrants were found in miserable conditions, with no access to basic amenities such as air conditioning, running water, or even drinking water. The temperature inside the trailer was reported to be in triple digits, posing severe health risks to the migrants.
"I didn’t even see any source of drinking water," said Sheriff Javier Salazar. "But it’s miserable conditions…and it’s just blazing hot in there."
Furthermore, the authorities discovered multiple bulletproof vests and long rifles behind the residence, leading to suspicions of cartel involvement in the smuggling operation.
Stifling Compartment and Medical Response
When the trailer arrived at a residence, it was discovered that the smugglers had created a decoy and hid 26 migrants in a large false compartment underneath the trailer. The migrants had been lying inside the stifling compartment for nearly three hours. As a result, EMS crews treated and transported 11 of them to nearby hospitals due to their exposure to the harsh elements.
Law enforcement officials secured the residence and detained several individuals, while some individuals managed to flee on foot. The authorities suspect that the human smuggling operation crossed the southern border near Laredo, Texas. It was noted that not all the individuals found in the trailer may be victims, as some could have been part of the smuggling operation.
"I don’t know if any of those rifles were automatic or semi-automatic, but it is quite possible," Sheriff Salazar said. "I mean, obviously, those are natural things to find in a smuggling operation like this. Clearly cartel related."
Migrant Details and Further Inquiries
All the migrants were reported to be adults, with the youngest being 18 years old. It was emphasized that investigators aimed to distinguish between actual migrants and individuals involved in the smuggling operation. The investigation into this illegal human smuggling activity is ongoing.
