Biden Faces Border Crisis as Trump Visits Eagle Pass, Texas
On Wednesday morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers recovered at least five unaccompanied children among dozens of illegal immigrants in Eagle Pass, known for high levels of illegal immigration. According to Texas DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez, the children were from Honduras and Guatemala, with ages ranging from five to 11. Each child was carrying a note with an address in either Texas or New York.
Trump's Visit
The recovery of the children comes ahead of former President Trump’s visit to the area on Thursday. Trump plans to highlight what he argues are President Biden’s failures at the border, as he eyes a second term in the White House.
President Biden's Border Visit
Meanwhile, President Biden, who criticized Trump for not supporting a collapsed bipartisan border deal, will also make an appearance at the border, marking his second visit since taking office in 2021. Biden’s choice of Brownsville, as pointed out by Border Patrol Union President Brandon Judd, historically hasn’t seen much illegal traffic, largely due to the infrastructure provided by his predecessor while in office.
Eagle Pass and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
Eagle Pass has been a point of contention between Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the Biden administration. Texas has taken several measures to address the situation, including deploying buoys in the middle of the Rio Grande, placing razor wire along train cars lining riverbanks, and constructing a new base for members of the National Guard. In January, Texas took control of a city-owned park in downtown Eagle Pass and denied access to federal immigration agents, leading to tension with the Biden administration.
