Biden Refuses to Commute Hunter's Sentence Following Gun Conviction: 'I'll Abide by Jury Decision'

President Biden refuses to commute son Hunter's sentence, standing by the jury's decision on federal felony counts for lying.

During the Group of 7 summit in Italy, President Biden reaffirmed his decision to not commute the sentence of his son, Hunter Biden, who was recently convicted on three federal felony counts. The charges stemmed from false statements made on a federal form regarding his drug addiction at the time of purchasing a handgun in 2018.

An Upheld Stance

Responding to inquiries about a potential pardon for Hunter, President Biden stood by his previous stance, stating, "I’m extremely proud of my son Hunter. He has overcome an addiction. He’s one of the brightest, most decent men I know. I am satisfied that, I’m not going to do anything. I said I’d abide by the jury decision. I will do that.”

When questioned about the possibility of using his authority to issue a commutation, which would leave the guilty verdict intact but wipe out some or all of the punishment, President Biden firmly replied, “No.” This decision underscores the administration's commitment to upholding legal proceedings and respecting judicial outcomes.
