California Homeowner Shoots Home Invasion Suspect, Injuring One in Attempted Burglary

On a Monday afternoon, an armed homeowner in an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood confronted a group of would-be burglars who had broken into his home. The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Valley Village.

Details of the Incident

The homeowner, who was alone in the house at the time, used a semi-automatic handgun to open fire on the intruders, hitting one of them twice. The other suspect managed to flee before the arrival of the police.

Police discovered the 25-year-old suspect injured inside the home, located at the 11600 block of Addison Street. The homeowner also sustained injuries during the altercation and was subsequently taken to a local hospital. Although the nature of the homeowner's injuries was not disclosed, LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz stated that the home appeared to have been randomly targeted.

Condition of the Suspect

The injured suspect, whose identity remains unknown, was transported to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. It is still uncertain whether the home invaders were armed during the break-in.

Unidentified At-Large Suspect

The at-large suspect is described as an African American male in his early 20s. Following the incident, the police established a perimeter around the neighborhood as part of efforts to locate the remaining suspects. Residents were advised to remain indoors while the search was ongoing.

LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz highlighted the increasing incidence of burglaries across Los Angeles and urged residents to be vigilant. She suggested that knowing one's neighbors and being mindful of open windows could serve as effective preventive measures in light of the rising temperatures, which might attract burglars.
