Canadian woman rescued after four-day solo spiritual quest in Colorado mountains, discouraging phone use
A Canadian woman, Gina Chase, 53, was rescued after getting lost in Colorado mountains during a guided spiritual quest.

A Canadian woman identified as Gina Chase, 53, from Victoria, British Columbia, was found alive after spending four days lost in the Colorado mountains. She was participating in a guided spiritual “quest” organized by the Animas Valley Institute, which promotes solitude in nature. The San Miguel County Sheriff's Office reported that participants were advised to fast and not bring cellphones.
Rescue Operation
The San Miguel County Sheriff's Office disclosed that Ms. Chase, along with 10 others, had been camping near the San Miguel Mountains of Colorado when she set out alone on a “solo journey” near Lone Cone Peak on August 14. After her absence from the camp was noted on August 15, a multi-day search was initiated, involving K9 teams, aircraft, and drones. Fortunately, Ms. Chase was found alive and unharmed.
Spiritual Experimentation
The authorities indicated that the participants had intentionally ventured into the backcountry without cellphones and had chosen to fast to enhance their experience with nature. The decision to abandon modern conveniences was likely aimed at fostering a deeper connection with the natural environment. However, these practices posed significant risks, as evidenced by the four days spent in the wilderness without communication or nourishment.
