Catawba Indians to Build $700 Million Casino in Kings Mountain, Creating 2,000 Jobs
Construction of Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort in Kings Mountain, with 2,000 jobs, is set to begin next week.

The Catawba Indians are set to commence construction next week on their highly anticipated $700 million casino project in Kings Mountain, heralding the creation of nearly 2,000 new jobs, tribal leaders announced on Friday.
New Permanent Casino to Open Phase 1 in 2026
The tribe, headquartered in Rock Hill, S.C., has been operating a temporary casino at the site since 2021, situated off Interstate 85 exit 5, approximately 35 miles west of Charlotte. The new permanent establishment, known as the Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort, will encompass a vast 2-million-square-foot area and is scheduled to open the first phase in early 2026. A groundbreaking ceremony has been slated for 10 a.m. on June 7, as per a Catawba Nation news release on Friday.
Ground-Level Features of Phase 1
The ground-level phase one will house 1,350 slots and electronic table games, 12 table games, and a 40-seat restaurant equipped with a sportsbook area containing 30 self-service kiosks.
Settlement Clears Path for Construction
After finalizing a private settlement in early May with its former casino developer regarding the ground lease for its trust lands, the tribe has overcome a significant hurdle in the project's development. The agreement with SkyBoat Gaming has paved the way for the construction of the casino, marking a pivotal moment for the Catawba Indians.
Resolution of Parking Dispute
In addition to the settlement, the tribe has acquired land around its temporary casino, including the contentious parking lot and property to support resort amenities, effectively resolving past disputes related to the parking space.
Tribe's Vision for the Casino
Catawba Nation Chief, Harris, emphasized the broader significance of the casino, stating, “The establishment of this casino is not just about bricks and mortar. It symbolizes our commitment to preserving our tribal identity, supporting our community, and creating opportunities for our people.” Harris also highlighted the tribe's efforts to keep casino revenue within North Carolina, underlining their dedication to the local community.
Key Developments and Future Plans
The tribe has completed crucial infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Dixon School Road bridge over I-85 and the installation of new sewer lines near the casino, in preparation for the permanent casino resort. Additionally, Delaware North, a global hospitality and entertainment consultant, is set to develop and manage the casino resort once approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission.
What to Expect in the First Phase
During the initial phase, the tribe plans to add 12 live table games and 56 slot machines to the temporary casino, along with additional parking space. Furthermore, back-of-house areas for surveillance, security, and the gaming cage will be completed, and the first two floors of a 1,600-spot parking garage will be constructed.
Second Phase to Feature 400-Room Hotel
The subsequent phase will include the construction of a 400-room hotel and the completion of the entire casino complex, which is expected to offer an array of amenities, including three levels of parking, a main casino floor with 4,300 slots and 100 table games, multiple restaurants, a players lounge, and six bars.
