Champs-Élysées Transformed into Giant Picnic Blanket for Al Fresco Meal Celebration

On Sunday, May 26, 2024, the iconic Champs-Élysées in Paris became the venue for a spectacular event, as it transformed into a massive picnic area. Approximately 4,000 lucky individuals were chosen through a draw to partake in this unique experience.

The selected participants were provided with complimentary baskets filled with delectable treats crafted by renowned Parisian chefs. These culinary delights included exquisite puff pastries, creative sandwiches, and other gourmet offerings. The food was prepared in temporary kitchens set up along the avenue and was generously provided by various restaurants, such as the esteemed Fouquet's and even McDonald's.

Setting the Scene

An enormous tablecloth, stretching 216 meters (236 yards) from the Arc de Triomphe to the intersection of Avenue George V, served as the seating area for the event. This grand occasion, which took place exactly two months before the commencement of the Summer Olympics in Paris, featured a tablecloth with a total surface area of 4,212 square meters (45,338 square feet). Notably, the tablecloth was made in France using 100% recycled fibers, underscoring a commitment to sustainability.

Mayor Anne Hidalgo graced the event with her presence and took the opportunity to engage with the picnickers, adding to the festive atmosphere.
