The individual who fired shots sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at a hospital approximately 30 minutes after the shooting. The man has been identified as Dexter Reed, aged 26, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

According to the Chicago police statement, the exchange of gunfire occurred around 6 p.m. during a traffic stop in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the city’s West Side. The precise number of officers who discharged their firearms has not been disclosed by the police at this time.
ShotSpotter Gunshot-Detection System
More than 50 rounds were detected by the ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, which cited records shared with the newspaper. Furthermore, a firearm was recovered from the scene of the shooting.
Investigation and Administrative Duties
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting an investigation into the shooting incident. Additionally, the officer or officers involved in the shooting will be assigned to administrative duties for a duration of 30 days, which is a standard procedure following shootings involving police officers, as per the information provided by the police authorities.
These developments were addressed by Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling during a meeting of the Chicago Police Board, where he expressed his hope for the swift recovery of the wounded officer.
