College Student Missing in Dominican Republic: Beach Safety Under Scrutiny
A US college student disappeared from a Dominican Republic resort beach; authorities are investigating, including a friend and a "young man" present that day.

The disappearance of a 20-year-old student from the University of Pittsburgh, Sudiksha Konanki, during a spring break trip to a five-star resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, has prompted ongoing investigations by law enforcement authorities. The case has raised concerns about the safety of guests at the resort and the circumstances surrounding Konanki's vanishing.
The Mysterious Disappearance
Sudiksha Konanki went missing on March 6, prompting a search by Dominican police, civil defense boats, and resort staff. Reports emerged suggesting that she may have drowned in the ocean after being swept away by large waves.
Fellow traveler D'Lani Sweeney, who was at the resort on the same day as Konanki's disappearance, expressed concerns about the lack of communication from the hotel regarding beach safety. She noted that there were no warnings about rough water conditions despite the presence of a red flag at the beach. Sweeney also highlighted other issues at the resort, such as prolonged power outages, which may have contributed to guests spending more time at the beach.
Sweeney's observations raised concerns about the conditions at the resort, which, coupled with the lack of communication regarding beach safety, may have influenced the actions of guests, including Sudiksha Konanki.
In response to the ongoing investigation and concerns raised, RIU Hotels, the operator of the resort, expressed deep concern over the disappearance of one of its guests. They assured their commitment to supporting the authorities in the search and emphasized the well-being of their guests as their highest priority.
