Title: Colosio Riojas Proposes National Healing to Overcome His Father's Tragedy
The candidate of the Movimiento Ciudadano party to the Mexican Senate, Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas, has proposed a "national healing" to overcome the tragedy that his father suffered in 1994. In an interview on Fórmula Noticias with Azucena Uresti, he revealed the reasons why he requested a pardon for Mario Aburto, the confessed assassin of Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta.
Seeking Justice and National Healing
"We are still discussing an issue from 30 years ago, while being distracted from the present day. There are so many families demanding that those in a position of public service listen to them, support them, and help them find justice. Therefore, it's not about revenge or political reprisal, but about not betraying the people's trust," he declared. He stated that he forgave Mario Aburto, the confessed assassin of the former PRI presidential candidate, a long time ago.
Call for Resolution and Reconciliation
"At the end of the day, this is about justice, not vengeance. Beyond my father's case, what I mentioned is about maturity and national healing. We have many situations where a child loses a parent due to the country's violence," he asserted. It's worth mentioning that the 30th anniversary of the assassination of Colosio Murrieta, who was killed during a campaign event in Lomas Taurinas, a neighborhood in Tijuana, Baja California, will be commemorated on March 23. Colosio Riojas requested a pardon for Mario Aburto.
President's Rejection and Standpoint
At the end of January of this year, Colosio Riojas called for a resolution to his father's case, stating that Mexican justice "fell short" at the time. "Pardon him, put a final end to this matter, allowing both my family and Mexico to heal and begin a path towards reconciliation through forgiveness, but above all, respecting the decision to leave this in the hands of another justice because Mexican justice fell short at the time, and what we want now is to turn the page," he stated before various media outlets. In response, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador rejected Colosio Riojas' request, stating that it was a matter of state: "As far as I am concerned, I do not want the matter to be dropped. I am not going to put an end to such an issue," he asserted.
