Authorities have apprehended a woman and her suspected paramour over a month subsequent to the lethal stabbing of her spouse outside his residence in Northern California. The investigation incorporated incriminating text messages, surveillance footage, and a particular song as evidence. On October 8, law enforcement in Hayward responded to a report of a lethal assault on the street, discovering Parwiz Assar, 51, with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Subsequently, evidence led authorities to Seattle, where they took 21-year-old Samim Azizi into custody. Azizi is currently being detained in King County Jail awaiting extradition to California. Approximately two weeks later, Assar's wife, 35-year-old Razma Mohammad-Ibrahim, was arrested in Hayward and is being held at Santa Rita County Jail. The couple had been facing marital challenges for some time, police stated, mentioning that Mohammad-Ibrahim and Azizi started a romantic relationship around December of 2022. According to Hayward Police, it is believed that the pair conspired to kill Assar so that Mohammad-Ibrahim could leave her marriage and be with Azizi while gaining full custody of her children and their assets.Police gathered various pieces of evidence, including surveillance footage, internet searches, and an alleged text from Azizi to Mohammed-Ibrahim referencing a "strong" knife. On the night of the attack, Assar's Ring doorbell camera captured a masked assailant ambushing him as he approached his front door. Following the attack, a friend of Assar's informed police about his fears that his wife was plotting to harm him. Furthermore, on the day of the incident, a post on Mohammad-Ibrahim's Instagram featured the Selena Gomez song "Single Soon." Assar and Mohammad-Ibrahim's young children are currently in the care of other family members, as confirmed by authorities. The U.S. Marshals Service, Renton Police Department, Washington State Crime Lab, and Washington State Department of Corrections cooperated with Hayward Police in the investigation. "I would like to take a moment to recognize the outstanding investigative work that led to the arrests in this case," stated Acting Chief Bryan Matthews in response to the apprehensions. "Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Mr. Assar as they continue to grieve during this difficult time."
