Congressional Democrats call for Biden to drop out of 2024 presidential race
Congressional Democrats urge President Biden to withdraw from 2024 race following poor debate performance, while some defend him.
In the aftermath of a lackluster debate performance, President Joe Biden is feeling the heat from fellow Democrats to step down from the 2024 presidential race. This push gained momentum after Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, became the first to urge the President to withdraw on July 2nd. Since then, more prominent figures, including ranking members of House committees, have echoed this sentiment.
While some lawmakers have rallied behind President Biden, the chorus of voices calling for his withdrawal is growing. Notably, members of the Congressional Black Caucus have stood by the President. Nonetheless, the pressure on Biden to reconsider his candidacy has intensified.
Biden Stands Firm
Despite the mounting pressure, President Biden made it clear in a letter to Democrats on Capitol Hill on July 8th that he intends to stay in the race. He cited "the voters have spoken" as the reason behind his decision.
