The use of a Roman Catholic church in Brooklyn as a backdrop for a music video by pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has sparked controversy and led to disciplinary actions against the church pastor. The video, released on Oct. 31, features provocative scenes, including the singer dancing in the church and posing next to pastel-colored coffins. This led to the church pastor being relieved of his administrative duties and a Mass being held to restore the sanctity of the church. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, which oversees the church, issued a statement expressing their dismay at the lack of adherence to filming procedures. As a result, the church pastor, Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, had his administrative duties revoked, and a Mass of Reparation was conducted to repair the harm caused. The singer and the video director have not yet commented on the situation. The pastor, in a Facebook post, sought forgiveness from the church community, stating that he permitted the filming in an attempt to build connections with young artists in the community and was unaware of the provocative nature of the scenes. The singer, known for her work on Disney Channel, has since promoted the video on social media, which has garnered millions of views. Despite the controversy, the singer has not addressed the backlash from the church community.
