Convicted Felon Charged with Fatally Stabbing 11-Year-Old Boy in Chicago Home Invasion
Convicted felon fatally stabs 11-year-old boy and injures pregnant mother in Chicago home invasion. Attacker was on parole from prison.
On March 15, a convicted felon named Crosetti Brand was charged with fatally stabbing an 11-year-old boy and seriously injuring his pregnant mother in a home invasion attack in Chicago. This horrifying incident occurred just one day after the suspect was paroled from prison.
Details of the Attack
The vicious attack took place in the 5900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue in Edgewater, about nine miles north of Downtown Chicago. Brand fatally stabbed Jayden Perkins as he tried to protect his mother, who was also stabbed. Tragically, the knife wound severed a major artery, and the young boy bled to death. His 5-year-old brother witnessed the attack but was unharmed.
Police Investigation
According to police, video evidence shows Brand fleeing the scene while holding the knife used in the attack. The Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx expressed deep sorrow and stated, "An innocent child's life was taken as he tried to protect his mother, far too soon."
Previous Criminal Record
Brand had a history of domestic violence and violating orders of protection. Despite a prior 16-year sentence for home invasion and aggravated assault, he was paroled and placed on electronic monitoring in October. Additionally, he had previously threatened the victim through text messages and violated a lifetime order of protection against him.
Tragic Aftermath
The Chicago Police Department Superintendent Larry Snelling described the mother's ordeal, saying, “Along with being brutally attacked, stabbed multiple times, dealing with that trauma, has to face the fact that she will never see, touch, hug her 11-year-old son. She's lost him forever".
