
Couple's Oceanfront Dream Home in the Bahamas: A Story of Resilience and Community

In 1985, Norvell and Mark Slezycki discovered the Bahamas and fell in love with the idea of living there. They eventually bought an acre of land, built a home, and retired there. Their home was destroyed by Hurricane Dorian in 2019. Since then, they have been rebuilding their property themselves. They spend six months in the Bahamas and six months in the US, enjoying the slower pace of life, simpler living, and strong sense of community on Great Guana Cay. Although they have faced challenges, they appreciate their life on the island and have no plans to settle there permanently.
