Dashcam Video Shows Dramatic Semi-Truck Crash and Daring Rescue on Louisville Bridge
Dashcam video captures a semi-truck crashing on a Louisville bridge, dangling over the edge before the driver is rescued.
A dramatic accident occurred in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 1, as a semi-truck crashed through the guardrail of the Clark Memorial Bridge, leaving it dangling over the Ohio River. The terrifying incident was captured in newly released dash camera footage.
Details of the Accident
The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m., leading to a prompt response from Louisville first responders. The dash cam video revealed that the semi-truck crossed the northbound lane and crashed through the bridge’s guardrail after a pickup truck swerved into its path, causing a head-on collision. The impact of the crash left the driver of the semi-truck struggling to maintain control of the vehicle as it headed towards the edge of the bridge.
Dramatic Rescue
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Sydney Thomas, found herself trapped in the cab of the semi-truck, which was left hanging over the side of the bridge, more than 100 feet above the river. A dramatic video showed a first responder being lowered to the semi-truck from a ladder and successfully lifting Thomas to safety, putting an end to the harrowing experience.
Legal Actions
The aftermath of the accident led to charges against the driver of the pickup truck, 33-year-old Trevor Branham, who faced four counts of wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Meanwhile, the trailer of the semi-truck, marked with the insignia of a major food distribution company, was left wedged against the bridge beams, preventing it from falling into the river below.
