Dead Body Found Wrapped in Sleeping Bag on New York City Sidewalk
Dead body found wrapped in sleeping bag on New York City sidewalk, shocking daylight discovery in Manhattan’s East Side neighborhood.

On a Friday, a shocking discovery was made in Manhattan’s East Side neighborhood of Kips Bay. The New York City Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a suspicious package just before 5 p.m., where they found a dead body wrapped in a sleeping bag on top of a dolly along a city sidewalk.
Eye witness Account
Ted Oehmke, who witnessed the scene, mentioned noticing a BMW SUV parked next to where the body was found with its hatch open the night before. He expressed astonishment at the effort taken to leave the body there and the possibility of getting away with it, considering the presence of surveillance cameras.
Identification of the Body
Although the person's identity and cause of death remain undisclosed by the police, Oehmke mentioned that the body appeared to be that of a white or Hispanic man in his 60s. The body was discovered outside a closed alterations store called "Apel’s Alterations."
Local Area and Activities
The neighborhood where the body was found has a reputation for people sleeping in public areas due to the presence of Bellevue ‘psych’ hospital and the largest men's shelter in the city. Oehmke, a resident of the neighborhood for 30 years, remarked that such incidents are not entirely surprising given the area's characteristics.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made thus far, as per the information provided by the police.
