Despite the submission of almost 100,000 claims regarding potential exposure to toxic water at Camp Lejeune, a Marine Corps base in North Carolina, progress on settlements has been slow. More than a year after the Camp Lejeune Justice Act was signed into law, the Navy has only begun processing a fraction of the claims, with no settlements paid. The legislation was intended to expedite compensation for victims of toxic water exposure at the base, where dangerous chemicals contaminated the drinking water from 1953 to 1987. The delay has caused frustration among veterans and their families, who had hoped for prompt resolution.
