Delta Jet Crashes in Toronto, Injuring Dozens

At least 15 people sustained injuries following a Delta Air Lines regional jet crash upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. ET, involving a CRJ-900 regional jet carrying 80 passengers and crew.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), all individuals onboard were successfully evacuated from the aircraft after the accident. Peel Regional Paramedic Services reported that two people were airlifted in critical condition following the crash.

Emergency crews immediately responded to the scene, and flights to the airport were temporarily halted to allow for the emergency response and investigation. Delta Air Lines acknowledged the incident and stated it is "working to confirm any details and will share the most current information" on its news site.

Delta Flight 4819, which originated in Delta's hub of Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, was en route to Toronto. The Toronto airport had anticipated a busy day with an expected 130,000 travelers on board approximately 1,000 flights. However, a storm that dumped over 8 inches of snow in the region presented challenging weather conditions.

Investigation and Recent Aviation Incidents

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will assume the lead role in investigating the crash, as per the FAA. This incident follows weeks after a fatal midair collision in January at Washington D.C.'s Reagan International Airport, which tragically claimed the lives of all 64 people on an American Airlines regional jet and three individuals on board an Army Black Hawk helicopter.
