Emergency Slide Falls Off Delta Plane After Takeoff From JFK

Delta flight's emergency landing at JFK due to a fallen slide and vibration was safely resolved with passengers rebooked.

On the 15th of October, 2021, a Delta Air Lines jetliner experienced an emergency incident shortly after takeoff from New York's JFK Airport. The pilots received an alert regarding an emergency slide on the right side of the Boeing 767 jet after takeoff. Subsequently, they also noticed an unusual sound emanating from that area of the aircraft, which was manufactured in 1990.

The crew reported feeling a vibration, prompting them to promptly declare an emergency to ensure a swift return to the airport for the safety of the 176 passengers, two pilots, and five flight attendants on board the flight, which was en route to Los Angeles.

The jetliner successfully landed and taxied to a gate under its own power, and all passengers were safely disembarked. Delta Air Lines took immediate action to accommodate the passengers by arranging an alternative flight to Los Angeles.

Ensuring Safety and Cooperation

Following the incident, the jetliner was removed from service for a comprehensive evaluation. Delta Air Lines assured that it is fully cooperating with investigators and providing support to locate the emergency slide. The airline emphasized that the safety of its customers and staff is of the utmost importance and commended the flight crew for their adherence to extensive training and procedures to ensure a safe return to JFK Airport.
