FAA Probes Southwest Airlines Over Multiple Safety Incidents, Including Low Tampa Bay Flight

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced an ongoing investigation into a recent incident involving a Southwest Airlines flight that flew at an alarmingly low altitude over Tampa Bay, Florida. The Incident

The specific incident under investigation took place on July 14 and involved a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 MAX that had departed from Columbus, Ohio. The aircraft was reportedly approximately 3 miles (5 km) from the Tampa airport when it descended to a low altitude of about 175 feet (53 meters), as indicated by Flightradar24 data. The air traffic controller responsible for the area promptly alerted the flight crew of Southwest Flight 425 to the concerning low altitude, prompting the plane to be diverted to Fort Lauderdale.

Safety Concerns and String of Incidents

Safety concerns have been further exacerbated by the revelation of previous incidents involving Southwest Airlines flights, some of which also relate to unusual altitude behaviors. Lastly, a June 25 incident involved a Southwest flight that departed from a closed runway in Portland, Maine.
