Fatal shooting of driver by Tennessee police after traffic crash

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported that in response to a reported traffic crash, police officers in Springfield, Tennessee, fatally shot a driver who exited the vehicle and fired at them on Tuesday night.

Incident details

The incident occurred late in the evening when Springfield Police officers arrived at the scene of the crash. According to the bureau's statement, the driver, identified as 28-year-old Kevin Chapman, got out of the vehicle with a gun and subsequently pointed it at the officers, opening fire. In response, the officers returned fire.

Outcome

Chapman was then transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, while no officers sustained injuries during the altercation. The bureau has stated that it is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting; however, no additional information has been released at this time.
