First Batch of Mpox Vaccines Arrives in Congo Amid Global Health Emergency Declaration
Congo received its first batch of mpox vaccines, with UNICEF leading the vaccination campaign amidst urgent global health emergency and limited doses available.

Congo's capital received its first shipment of mpox vaccine, containing 100,000 doses of the MVA-BN vaccine donated by the European Union. Another 100,000 doses are expected soon. Despite international support, there is a significant vaccine shortage in Congo, with authorities estimating a need for 3 million doses to control the mpox outbreaks, especially among children.
Addressing the Vaccination Drive and Distribution Challenges
UNICEF is set to lead the vaccination campaign in the hardest-hit provinces, but the timing of the campaign remains uncertain. While Western nations have pledged 380,000 doses, this falls drastically short of the 3 million doses estimated as necessary to combat the outbreaks in Congo, particularly among the vulnerable child population.
