Florida woman tracks stolen luggage using Apple Watch, leading to airport employee's arrest
Florida woman's lost bag found through Apple Watch tracking. Investigation leads to arrest of airport worker for theft.
On a fateful day in March, a woman from Florida experienced a distressing situation at the baggage carousel when her pink hard-shell roller bag failed to materialize following the cancellation of her flight. In a state of panic, she resorted to a clever solution by utilizing the location-tracking feature of her Apple Watch, which she had stowed inside the bag. The device indicated that it was transmitting a signal from an address approximately six miles north of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the very location where she had checked her baggage.
A Strange Discovery
Determined to retrieve her belongings, the woman embarked on a journey to the identified address. Upon arrival, she encountered a puzzling sight - although her bag was nowhere to be found, the surroundings were strewn with luggage. Undeterred, she documented the scene by capturing photos and videos before promptly reporting the incident to the authorities.
The Unraveling of a Theft
Subsequently, an investigation ensued, culminating in the apprehension of an airport employee residing at the address. This individual was charged with grand theft after incriminating surveillance footage depicted him rifling through the woman's bag at the airport. The Sheriff’s Office revealed that the stolen items, valued at over $5,000, encompassed her Apple Watch, iPad, MacBook, jewelry, apparel, and personal care products.
