Former California Teacher Faces Felony Charges for Inappropriate Relationship with Female Student

Female California teacher faces 17 felony charges for sexual relationship with 15-year-old student, including explicit messages and sex acts.

A 40-year-old drama teacher, Stacey Michelle Walker, from Mt. Carmel High School in California, is facing 17 felony charges after engaging in a sexual relationship with a female student who was 15 years old when the relationship began in 2017. The sexual assaults continued until after the victim turned 18 years old in 2019.

Sexual Nature of Conversations

The San Diego Police reported that Walker began engaging the 15-year-old victim in conversations that became sexual in nature. The interactions escalated to the exchange of numerous photographs, videos, and explicit text messages. Additionally, Walker met with the victim several times and engaged in various sexual acts.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

Walker faces charges including sodomy, oral copulation, and luring a minor for a sex offense, according to jail records at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility. She was jailed on March 20 on $400,000 bail.

Investigation and School Response

The victim, now an adult, reported the abuse to the San Diego Police, prompting the launch of an investigation on July 31. Lt. Dan Sayasane confirmed that the incidents occurred at varying locations, and the department is still looking for any additional victims. After being informed of the allegations, the Poway Unified School District placed Walker on leave and initiated an independent investigation. Principal Yael Bozzay assured parents of the school's commitment to ensuring the safety of all students.

Legal Proceedings

Walker had previously been a student at Mt. Carmel High School and expressed her love for being back at the school. However, with the charges against her, she has been placed on leave pending the investigation's outcome.

Community Response

Parents were requested to have conversations with their children about the importance of reporting when they do not feel safe and to reach out directly to the school with any concerns related to the matter. An attorney representing Walker was not immediately available for comment.
