The incident occurred on July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, where a would-be assassin fired a bullet that narrowly missed entering Trump's head, instead striking the top of his right ear. Jackson described the bullet track, indicating that it resulted in a significant 2-centimeter wide wound that extended to the ear's cartilaginous surface. Despite initial bleeding and swelling, the wound is now showing signs of proper healing, with the swelling resolved and the beginning of granulation.

Since the shooting, Jackson has been providing daily evaluation and treatment for Trump's wound. While no sutures were necessary, the ear's highly vascular nature has led to intermittent bleeding, requiring the ongoing use of a dressing.
