Former Presidential Candidate Calls for Biden to Step Aside in Favor of Harris
Julian Castro urges Biden, 81, to step aside for Kamala Harris, citing her as a stronger candidate against Trump.

Former presidential candidate Julián Castro, who competed against President Biden in the 2020 Democratic primaries, made a bold statement on Tuesday. He suggested that President Biden should step down from the race, advocating for Vice President Kamala Harris to take his place at the top of the Democratic ticket.
Call for Biden's Withdrawal
During an interview on MSNBC, 49-year-old Mr. Castro expressed his belief that 81-year-old President Biden should "absolutely" remove himself from the race against former President Donald J. Trump. He emphasized the need for another Democratic candidate, stating that "it is too risky to let Donald Trump walk into this in November."
Criticism of Biden's Performance
Mr. Castro, who previously served as the Housing and Urban Development Secretary in the Obama administration, has consistently voiced concerns about Mr. Biden's age. Following Mr. Biden's underwhelming performance in a recent debate against Mr. Trump, Mr. Castro criticized the president, stating that "Biden had a very low bar going into the debate and failed to clear even that bar."
Controversy Surrounding Biden's Abilities
Mr. Castro's call for a different Democratic candidate comes after his previous remarks during the 2020 campaign, where he questioned Mr. Biden's memory. His recent comments reflect his belief that another Democrat would have a better chance at defeating Mr. Trump.
For Mr. Castro, the urgency for a change in the Democratic ticket is clear, and he continues to voice his concerns about the party's prospects in the upcoming election.
