Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro faces jail for contempt of Congress, hoping for Supreme Court reprieve and a short prison stay.

On Tuesday former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro aged 74 is set to become the first former White House official ever jailed for contempt of Congress Navarro has been sentenced to four months in prison after being found guilty of failing to respond to congressional subpoenas for documents and testimony in the Houses investigation of the January 6 2021 US Capitol attack
Navarros prison report date and potential early release
Navarro is due to report to a minimumsecurity federal Bureau of Prisons satellite camp in Miami where he hopes to spend his next few months However he is still appealing and asking the Supreme Court to intervene before turning himself in on Tuesday morning If the Supreme Court doesnt intervene and decide to put off his prison report date Navarro is unlikely to serve the four full months of his sentence because of laws that allow for early release for federal inmates expecting to serve about 90 days
Life behind bars
His prison consultant Sam Mangel mentioned that Navarro will have to take classes and get a job inside the prison Mangel has urged him to try for roles as a law library clerk or an orderly to spend the next few months in the air conditioning as Miamis weather warms Due to his age Navarro also plans to request accommodation in a dormitory for elderly inmates that houses about 80 men in bunk beds
Prison conditions and support from other inmates
The federal correctional facility Navarro is headed to in Miami is one of the oldest prison camps in the country housing fewer than 200 inmates in its aging infrastructure Inside Navarro will have access to amenities such as more than eight hours of phone calls a month email access and the ability to follow news on a few dozen TVs inside the prison It has been mentioned that there are two additional clients of his prison consultant already doing time in that prison camp who are planning to help Navarro acclimate
Justice Departments position
The Justice Department has asked the Supreme Court to reject Navarros lastditch effort to avoid reporting to prison Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar called Navarros arguments meritless and urged the court to deny his emergency appeal arguing that his challenge is not likely to result in a reversal of his conviction
