Former Trump White House Aide Responds to Impeachment Witness Claims with Alleged Photo Evidence
Former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson has, through her attorney, responded to House Republicans' top impeachment witness, Tony Bobulinski, regarding comments made during his recent interview with the House Oversight Committee. These comments were characterized as "defamatory" by Hutchinson's attorney, who provided a photo allegedly depicting an encounter between Bobulinski and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, contradicting Bobulinski's claims about the incident.
Allegations and Contradictions
Bobulinski, a onetime business associate of Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden, has become a vocal critic of the Biden family and a key witness in the Republican impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. During his testimony before the House panel, Bobulinski accused Hutchinson of being a "liar and a fraud," refuting an anecdote from her book, "Enough," where she described Bobulinski wearing a "ski mask" during a secretive encounter with Trump's then-chief of staff, Mark Meadows, at a campaign rally in Rome, Georgia.
Hutchinson's attorney, William H. Jordan, addressed the panel's top Democrat, Rep. Jamie Raskin, and the Republican chairman, James Comer, in a letter disputing Bobulinski's claims. The letter also provided a photo purportedly taken by Hutchinson at the time of the alleged encounter between Meadows and Bobulinski at the Trump rally. According to the attorney, the photo contradicts Bobulinski's sworn testimony, showing the pair meeting at night between SUVs, with Bobulinski wearing a hat and a black mask, which is at odds with Bobulinski's denial of wearing a mask during the encounter.
Inconsistencies and Response
Bobulinski's testimony, where he denied wearing a ski mask and receiving anything from Meadows during the encounter, is met with Hutchinson's attorney asserting the veracity of the photo, suggesting it could serve to "refresh his recollection."
The attorney for Bobulinski, Jesse Binnall, responded to Hutchinson's claims by stating that she would get her opportunity to tell her story in court in front of a jury, implying a forthcoming legal battle to ascertain the truth. Meanwhile, Meadows did not immediately respond to a request for comment from ABC News.
Dispute Escalates
This dispute unfolded following a letter from Raskin to Bobulinski's attorney, characterizing Bobulinski's testimony as "chaotic" and claiming it "did not offer any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden." In response, Bobulinski's attorney, Stefan Passantino, expressed shock and disgust at the suggestion that Bobulinski had not presented any evidence of President Biden's involvement in his family's business dealings, emphasizing the significance of Bobulinski's testimony.
As the conflicting accounts and allegations continue to unfold, this dispute raises questions about potential discrepancies in witness testimonies and the implications for the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
