Four Killed in High-Speed Collision Near Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County

Four killed in a collision near Don Pedro Reservoir; Chevy driver unlawfully passing at 100mph, causing head-on crash. 

Authorities have identified the victims of the tragic collision that occurred near Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County on Friday, May 31. The victims were a Stockton man, 56; a Modesto woman, 66; a Salida woman, 65; and a La Grange woman, 33. The names of the victims have been withheld pending family notification.

Details of the Collision

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) release, the collision occurred when the Stockton man, driving a 2020 Chevrolet 1500 pickup, was unlawfully passing another vehicle at a speed of approximately 100 mph or faster, over the double yellow center line on Bond Flats Road. The pickup was carrying the Modesto and Salida residents as passengers. Simultaneously, the La Grange woman was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander south on Bonds Flat Road at about 45 mph. As a result of the Chevy driver’s excessive speed, both vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane, near the T-shaped intersection with La Grange Road.

Tragic Outcome

The force of the impact propelled the Toyota backward about 106 feet, and the fronts of the vehicles were embedded. Despite all occupants wearing their seat belts and the airbags being deployed, all four individuals tragically lost their lives at the scene.
