France's Left-Wing Parties Unite to Combat Rising Far-Right Threat
Left-wing alliance formed to resist rising fascism in Europe. France's main left-wing parties unite against far-right National Rally party.

Following President Emmanuel Macron's announcement of a snap election for France’s National Assembly, the internet and media have been abuzz with the two words: Popular Front. This term harks back to the 1930s when a left-wing alliance was formed to combat the rise of fascism in Europe and at home. In a similar vein, France’s main left-wing parties have now united under the banner of the New Popular Front to confront the perceived threat posed by Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally party.
A New Formidable Foe
The New Popular Front aims to counter the growing influence of the far-right, which is now closer to seizing power than ever before. Socialist leader Olivier Faure expressed his concerns, drawing a parallel to the Vichy regime during World War II, warning that the extreme right could potentially prevail in France once again.
