Georgia Mother's Terrifying Walmart Tug-of-War With Child Abductor

A Georgia woman recently faced a potential kidnapping attempt in a local Walmart, resulting in a tense situation that left both her and her children shaken. The incident occurred when 56-year-old Mahendra Patel allegedly attempted to grab the woman's two-year-old son while she was shopping with her children.

The Incident at Walmart

Caroline Miller was shopping at a Walmart in Acworth with her two children when the motorized wheelchair they were using broke down in the pharmacy aisle. Shortly after, Patel approached the family, asking for help finding Tylenol. As Miller pointed in the direction of the medicine, Patel allegedly reached down, put both of his hands on Miller's son, and attempted to pull him out of her lap.

Miller described the heart-stopping moment, stating, "When I pointed my arm out this way to say this is where it was, that is when he reached down, put both of his hands on Jude, and grabbed him out of my lap." In a quick instinctual response, Miller managed to "break away" with her son, resulting in a physical struggle between her and Patel over the child. Miller recounted the experience, saying, "I pulled him back. We're tug-of-warring."

Following the altercation, Patel reportedly walked away, completed his purchase of the Tylenol, and left the store. Thankfully, the child was unharmed, as confirmed by the police shortly after the incident. Detectives worked swiftly to identify Patel by interviewing witnesses and analyzing surveillance footage of the encounter.

Apprehending the Suspect

Merely three days after the alleged kidnapping attempt, police apprehended Patel and charged him with kidnapping, simple assault, and simple battery. Authorities were able to trace Patel's movements by monitoring the surveillance footage and utilizing Flock cameras in the city to obtain his vehicle's registration number for tracking purposes. As a result, Patel was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Sheriff's Office. No attorney has been publicly identified to represent him at this time.

In response to the disturbing incident, a spokesperson for Walmart released a statement emphasizing the company's commitment to customer and associate safety. The spokesperson affirmed that Walmart is cooperating fully with law enforcement during the ongoing investigation into the attempted kidnapping.
