A former professional golfer with an inspiring medical history has been apprehended on charges of domestic abuse in Miami. Erik Compton, 43, who has undergone two heart transplants, was taken into custody for alleged strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor battery following an argument with his wife, according to the Miami-Dade Police. The disagreement escalated when his wife began filming the exchange on her phone. Compton purportedly snatched the device and discarded it into a nearby pool before forcefully pushing his wife against a wall. She safely left the premises and reported the incident to authorities from a friend's residence. Subsequently, Compton was charged at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami but was later released on bond. In the state of Florida, strong-armed robbery is considered a second-degree felony, potentially carrying a prison sentence of up to 15 years and substantial fines. Misdemeanor battery, on the other hand, carries a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail. Compton, known for his notable performance at the 2014 US Open where he finished tied for second place, has had a commendable career with five top 10 finishes in 168 PGA Tour starts, although he has yet to secure a victory. Despite facing viral cardiomyopathy, he has exemplified resilience, receiving two successful heart transplants in 1992 and 2008.
