The hazardous reaction resulted from the improper mixing of sodium hypochlorite and sulfuric acid, leading to breathing difficulties for two subjects, as reported in a 911 call. The Webster Fire Chief confirmed the identification of the chemicals involved in the incident.

Fifteen others were also affected, with five individuals evacuating the building and sixteen employees and contractors being decontaminated and rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the seriousness of the situation, fire personnel assured that the hotel and water park were not exposed to hazardous chemicals.

In response to the incident, Great Wolf Lodge expressed gratitude to the first responders for their swift action and confirmed that the water park would open as planned. The safety and well-being of guests and staff were emphasized as top priorities.
